You are here: American University Provost The Office of Undergraduate Education and Academic Student Services
Welcome to the Office of Undergraduate Education and Academic Student Services (UEAS) at American University! Our goal is to help students navigate their undergraduate education at AU. We do this by administering programs for curricula, student cohorts, holistic advising, student academic growth, and student academic support. We ensure access to academic resources for students, faculty, and staff virtually and on campus. UEAS brings about students’ academic success through experiential learning, advising, and collaboration with other AU departments.
UEAS consists of multiple student-focused functional areas. In the AU Core, students take foundational courses, Habits of Mind courses, and integrative courses focused on inquiry to put their curiosity to use inside and outside of the classroom. Many top performing students are also enrolled in the AU Honors Program to further enrich their scholarly activities or with the DC Community Impact Scholars Program to conduct service-oriented work with communities. Students work with the First Year Advising office to build a schedule based on their academic interests and major requirements. The Student-Athlete Support Program provides additional academic and holistic support to our student athletes.
Students can join living-learning communities that enhance their social experience and enrich their education with University College, the AU Cornerstone Program, AU Compass, AU Honors, or DC Community Impact Scholars. Students can receive intensive mentorship and support through the AU Catalyst Program.
Student-focused supports are a hallmark of an AU education and are available to all undergraduate, graduate, and law students. Disability Support Services in the Academic Support and Access Center provide academic accommodations and housing accommodations, accommodated testing, and the Learning Sciences Program. The Academic Support Services area provides services for all students, including academic coaching, peer tutoring (PASS), supplemental instruction, and the writing center. Likewise, the Quantitative Support area provides math, stats, and software support for all students.
We collaborate with the Career Center to help students develop career goals, decision-making skills, and internship and job search strategies. Students can discover opportunities for international educational experiences in over 130 programs through AU Abroad. The Office of Merit Awards can help students identify competitive scholarship opportunities.
