Butler Pavilion, Room 5th Floor on a map
4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016 United StatesMaking the journey towards a career can be a challenge, but finding the Career Center should be your first step.
Located on the 5th floor of the Butler Pavilion, our staff warmly welcomes students. Our commitment extends beyond just being a resource for perfecting resumes or interview practice; we strive to offer comprehensive guidance through every facet of the early career journey. At American University, all our students have different abilities and preferences, and each navigates campus in their own unique way.
With the help of Student Government President Edwin Santos, we’ve created an informative and inclusive video about how to locate the Career Center on campus. Our creative team meticulously mapped out the most efficient and accessible paths to accommodate all students, regardless of their abilities.
The audio descriptions in our video cater to students with visual impairments, offering a vivid narration of the material, and building a mental image of the environment. Similarly, the video’s captions supply essential information for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they don't miss any details.
Throughout the video, we are conscious of addressing other needs that students with disabilities may encounter.
For students with physical disabilities, ramps provide a smooth and accessible pathway, eliminating barriers and maintaining independent mobility. Automatic doors provide both convenience and autonomy, allowing students with mobility challenges to enter spaces with ease.
Edwin Santos, with the help of an artificial voice called Mr. Artificial, makes sure to fully describe the locations and the process of getting to the Career Center. While something like the number of steps and choosing the proper path may be taken for granted by some, it is a necessary detail for others.
The Career Center is dedicated to recognizing the diverse factors that could impact a student’s route to success, and to making a supportive and accessible environment for everyone.
