Alumni

Greetings from LaTanya Sothern

Dear fellow alumni,

We did it! Hopefully you’ve heard, but the AU Board of Trustees voted earlier this month to officially close the historic Change Can’t Wait campaign. Together, we raised more than $507 million to support our alma mater. I could not be prouder to share in this success with all of you, and if you haven’t found a way to get involved with all the good things going on at AU, I encourage you to do so.

The fall semester is underway, and, as our newest Eagles settle in on campus, there are myriad ways in which you can engage. Later this month, we’ll celebrate the impact of the campaign as a community at the September 28 Change Can’t Wait festival.

Other upcoming events include the annual Multicultural Alumni Reunion. MCAR, as we call it, celebrates the diverse cultural identities of American University's alumni community, and this year it takes place in tandem with Family Weekend. There’s no better time to get back to campus with your friends or family and discover all the good that is happening at AU.

Finally, I must share with you that Alumni Awards nominations are open through October 15. Selected through a highly competitive process, the American University Alumni Awards are the highest honors presented by the Alumni Association. With a long and storied history, this program highlights graduates who have made lasting impacts on society and on AU through outstanding professional, philanthropic, or volunteer accomplishments. Nominate your favorite Eagle today!

These are just a few of the many ways to engage with our beloved alma mater. If you are interested in learning more, visit our website. And, as always, thank you for your continued support.

Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle,

LaTanya Sothern, SOC/BA ’92
